For some reason, I feel like I can’t move forward with 2011 until I appropriately “close out” 2010, at least on the blog. So, I am working on that, and this is the first part. In 2010, I baked and cooked more than I have in my other 29 years combined. It has been intermittently wonderful and frustrating. Learning a new skill is hard. But overall, learning to cook has been so very rewarding. If one could taste time, 2010 would taste like a fresh fruit cobbler, or maybe roasted vegetables with rosemary, or maybe a warm bowl of oatmeal. I look forward to all that we can taste and see in 2011.

There you have it: 2010 was a year of figs, fruit cobblers, cheese, bread, and rosemary. A year of old favorites and experiments, comfort food and sweet treats. A year of cleaned plates, messy kitchens, and sinks piled high with dirty dishes. A year of egg shells, powdered sugar, pizza dough, chocolate chips, pumpkin seeds, and cream cheese. 2010 was the year I learned that butter makes everything better and a little bit of sugar goes a long way. 2010 was the year we bought a cherry pitter, a Dutch oven, and a mini muffin tray. 2010 was the year was not only the year we learned to cook, but the year we learned to really eat. And to close this possibly overly sentimental post, I will leave you with an infamous quote from my favorite sister:
"Fiiiinished!”
