Weekending: Saturday Rituals

046

It is such a pretty weekend!  Ritual #1: Photos!

Ritual #2: sunbathing (and I have the sunburn to prove it):

Ritual #3: Brent goes cycling while I go to Weight Watchers (and then shopping – but I did not buy anything today!)

Ritual #4: Fernandos

We always get the same thing at Fernandos – the lunch fajitas.  I don’t eat the tortillas but Brent does and he makes his wraps just so (the arrows indicate the order of placement): meat –> onions + peppers –> beans –> rice –> salsa –> cheese dip drizzled from a chip in a line across. I’m not kidding; it is a work of art every single time. And even though we get the steak and chicken fajitas (sometimes the steak, chicken & shrimp), no mixing of meat is allowed in the same tortilla. It must be homogenous each time.  I’ll try to get a picture of that next time.

The story behind that first pic of Brent is that the caption is: “He said my story was cool.  And he called me bro.”  Like this:

We love it!  The dog looks just like Oscar!

Another ritual:

012

The red light photos where Brent looks like he hates me and our life.  I thought I took a ton of pictures before the iPhone, but now it is just out of control.  I take pictures of everything.

017

Today was the Blue Angels airshow in town.  Northport was packed.  I totally didn’t get it at all and had no desire to see it, but then we were at Walmart and it started and suddenly we were outside with our eyes glued to the skies, just mesmerized. I couldn’t tolerate it for long, though. It was very, very loud.

It’s That Time

It’s that perfect time of the year for sunshine.  It is beautiful but not miserably hot.  I love it!

This was my view last Sunday afternoon:

Just lovely.  Hopefully it will be just as pretty this weekend.

And then:

Rolo cookies!  They were so good!  I’m going to make them again this weekend and hopefully remember to take a picture of the finished product.

Highlights from the week:

Lunch on a budget!  Spaghettio’s for him and Michelina’s chicken fried rice for her ($1 per box and really so good that I would eat it even if we weren’t on a budget!).

I took the first picture for Brent, but decided to post it here also to share my wonderful idea with you guys. Ladies & gentlemen, this picture shows the very best way to eat a Cadbury egg….all at once. Yes, put the whole thing in your mouth and let the chocolate melt in your mouth.  So good!

And a picture of the cute pug necklace that I found on Mod Cloth.  Sale!

I taught nursing inservices this week and had catered food courtesy of the drug rep…this was leftover chicken from Desperado’s.  SO GOOD.  Enough for us to eat all weekend!

And tonight we got ALL of our grocery shopping and misc shopping done…so we have alllll weekend to relax!

Spring Fever

005

It is officially spring!

Some highlights of the week:

Yes, that is a rubber snake Brent BORROWED from his friend to try to scare Nancy, the lady who comes to clean every other week.

This is one of my favorite lines of poetry (Walt Whitman).

Above: us on the way to see the Hunger Games Friday after work.  It was so good!  The only downside was my motion sickness and the headache.  Can’t wait for the next one!  The sunset was so pretty when we were coming out!

And speaking of the Hunger Games, I found this so funny:

Above:  Brent & Milly, a basil pesto chicken gyro from Taziki’s (it is one of my favorites!), sunset over the tornado track through Tuscaloosa – it is still barren, and us on the way to dinner tonight.

Tonight we went to Steamers, a seafood bar/restaurant that recently (re)opened near our house.  I love oysters and I was craving them!  They were all over the menu and I was so excited trying to decide between baked or steamed. The shrimp also looked good, so I ordered the shrimp + oysters combo platter…and it came out FRIED.  I was SO disappointed. I know it is borderline ludicrous to complain about perfectly good(restaurant!) food because there are lots of hungry people out there and it was my mistake for not verifying. It was still okay, but definitely not what I wanted.

Brent, on the other hand, ordered the low country boil.  He said it was good, but not as good as the Anderson version.  For some reason he peeled the shell + tail off of each shrimp.  I kept telling him it was the best part but he wouldn’t listen. :)

003

This was also the week of the saltine challenge.  Have you ever heard of it? If not, google it – or better yet, just try it.  The challenge is eating 5 saltines in 60 seconds – must be completely chewed & swallowed.  I can’t do it but Brent somehow managed to.  What a multi-talented man!

You should definitely try it!  And may the odds be ever in your favor!
