September Miscellany

IMG_3369IMG_3615

We found Oscar sleeping in the laundry basket one morning as we were getting ready for work.  He usually HATES the laundry basket.  In all the years we have had him, he has never willingly climbed in to a laundry basket.

This picture verifies that I do have the absolute WORST luck in the world.  I was rushing around at work trying to get ready to leave and meet a friend downtown for dinner & a concert.  About 15 minutes before the last possible second I could leave and still get there on time, I managed to drop a bottle of fingernail polish on my (white) office floor.  Of course it opened when it hit the floor!  I had to go to a nearby nursing unit and beg for fingernail polish remover – which actually comes in packets like wet ones at the hospital….it took ~ 25 packets to get it all cleaned up.  And I was trying to rush!

BUT I did manage to make it to dinner & the concert on time.  Actually, I was late but my friend was late too. We saw Train at the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater and it was THE BEST concert I have ever been to.  The best!  The energy was good and I knew almost every single song.  We loved our seats, too.  Cheapest seats available, but we could still hear and see just fine and it was not crowded in the seats around us, although the rest of the amphitheater was pretty full.  The weather was perfect, too!

We enjoyed the Train concert so much that we actually went back two days later to see Kelly Clarkson + The Fray.  It was good too, but not as good.  Kelly Clarkson has an amazing voice!

You know you are getting old when you take a nap before going to a concert because you know you are going to be up late & have to go in to work early the next day (my weekend to work!).

Me & all the dogs piled on the couch and took a nap together.  I tried to get a fake sleeping picture but couldn’t fit us all in.

Oscar is such a weird animal.  He HATES it when one of us leaves the house and he’ll run after us & bark like crazy.  Lately, when he sees one of us getting ready to leave, he will go and wait behind this chair and then charge us when he hears the door open – like an ambush. On this particular day, I saw him hiding there and went over and exposed him.

Other than that, we have been pretty busy lately, so I haven’t been cooking much or taking many pictures. We have a big project going on at work and I have been working a lot of extra hours. We have also been going to a personal trainer on Monday & Wednesday evenings to help strengthen my back.  It has been great, and I think it seems to be helping, except for the time I fell down while doing a side lunge.  Not sure what happened, but oh well! Embarrassment is for those people who have some dignity remaining.  Anyway, my back is getting in better shape every day!  And if I could just get my right leg to stop cramping I will be good as new!

What Goes Up Must Come Down: Mount LeConte, Part III

We made it!

This bridge is the very last part of the trail.

Overall, I was really impressed with everyone!  Brent did great!  He doubled-back so many times to wait on people and take pictures.  I don’t think he even got winded.  Arlis & Thelma did great also!  They smoked us on the way up!  And Talitha hiked the whole entire hike during an asthma attack.  Hardcore!

After we left the park, the plan was that Brent would go to his parents’ house and I would go to Mama & Daddy’s. So me & Daddy drove out of the park, through Gatlinburg and into Pigeon Forge with the top down! It was just a beautiful day. We stopped at the Apple Barn & then stopped at Ruby Tuesdays for supper.  I could barely hold my eyes open on the way home.  When we got home we had warm apple fritters + vanilla ice cream!  We earned it!

The End!!!

On Top of the World: Mount LeConte Part II

And then we were there!

The lodge itself is actually not much.  It is pretty rustic.  I can’t imagine working up here and having to stay up here for days on end!

We had a picnic at the top.  It was chilly!  I went in the dining room and stood by the heater for a little while.

The view from the lodge is actually not that great. To really get the full effect, you have to hike a little further to Cliff Tops or Myrtle Point. Last time we hiked to the Cliff Tops but I was too tired to make it to Myrtle Point. This time, me, Daddy & Brent headed out to Myrtle Point, an additional 0.7 miles past the lodge.  But first, a family photo at the top! (Some of us were happier than others! Ha!)

As you can see, the little bit of extra hiking was worth it!
