“And suddenly, there was with the angel a multitude of heavenly host praising God and saying,
Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will to men!”

During Advent, the pastor at church has been preaching a series of sermons about the purpose of Christmas. Previous weeks have focused on Celebration and Salvation. Today’s sermon was on Reconciliation. It was wonderful. He began by pointing out that peace on earth is not something that human beings are good at; however, Christ is the Prince of Peace. Therefore, there will never be peace on earth until Christ is in control of the lives of individuals. It reminds me of Mother Teresa when she received the Nobel Peace Price and was asked: “What can we do to promote world peace?” To which she replied: “Go home and love your family.”
Peace is so elusive, and we are so desperate for it. Isn’t peace is the most desired state of mind? Happiness, even, doesn’t satisfy like peace does. The pastor went on to illustrate that peace is achieved through reconciliation. Reconciliation makes it possible to achieve peace with God, ourselves, and others. This idea of the reconciliation and peace is something I am going to be studying this week as we prepare for Christmas.
This morning I made pumpkin bread (from a kit) and it turned out beautiful and tasty. I love pumpkin all during the year, but especially at the holidays. Brent has requested that I make a pumpkin roll sometime this week.
After church, we finished up the Christmas shopping and had a late lunch at Los Calientes. Being out in the crowds is truly exhausting. It is my least favorite thing about Christmas.
Tonight we drove around to look at Christmas lights. A nearby neighborhood was doing luminaries last night and tonight and it was beautiful!
Tonight we wrapped some presents. Much more to do tomorrow!
